Before Bill's move to Dodge:
Team Stats were
Owner/Team: Bill Elliott
Driver: Bill Elliott
Car Number: 94
Make: Ford Tarus
Crew Chief: Jerry Pitts
Bill Elliott left the Junior Johnson team after the 1994 season to become
an owner/driver. It wasn't a new experience, Elliott and his brothers had
operated their own team before, in partnership with Harry Melling. But
when that arrangement dissolved, Elliott chose to spend a few years
driving for others. Now, he says, "We're ready to get back together and
go on about our business."
Elliott was co-owner of the new McDonald's Racing Team with Georgia
businessman Charles Hardy. A successful businessman, Hardy's association
with the Elliott family began in the 1980s when he purchased Bill Elliott
Ford from George Elliott, patriarch of the Elliott family. But midway
through the 1996, Elliott became sole owner of the team.
The owner of 17 car dealerships around the Atlanta area, Hardy has been
involved in racing since the 1950s -- first as a drag racer and then as
promoter of Southeastern Dragway in his hometown of Hiram, Ga.
Elliott's brothers, Ernie and Dan will also return to the team, with Ernie
building the engines and Dan Elliott preparing the gears and transmissions,
just like they did during the team's heyday of the 1980's.
CREW CHIEF: JERRY PITTS -- Pitts was the crew chief for Bill's #13 car
and moved over to the #94 after the Texas race.
Crew Chief Joe Garone left after Texas, Pitts is interim crew chief for now.
Mike Beam leaves as the Team Mgr, goes to the #21
